CaseyGerry's Gayle M. Blatt Appointed to Plaintiff’s Steering Committee in Litigation Against Global Chip Maker Intel
Blatt Only San Diego Attorney Tapped for Steering Committee.
- San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2018 - Marking another national litigation leadership appointment, Gayle M. Blatt has been selected by U.S. District Judge Michael H. Simon to serve on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in In re: Intel Corp. CPU Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (“Intel”). Blatt, a partner at CaseyGerry and chair of the firm’s complex litigation group, is the only San Diego attorney appointed to a leadership role in the litigation that was recently centralized in the District of Oregon.
The Intel litigation centers on claims that, for many years, Intel was designing and selling computer processors (CPUs) with serious security flaws. Allegedly, when Intel was made aware of these vulnerabilities – known as “Meltdown” and “Spectre” – it did not notify the millions of consumers potentially affected by the problems. Instead, it is claimed that Intel remained silent until news of the flaws came to light at the beginning of this year. Once patches for the vulnerabilities began to be released, users reported noticeable performance declines.
Intel has built its reputation in the chip market on two factors: security and speed. Meltdown and Spectre challenge both, says Blatt. “I am honored to serve on this important committee and to continue my work as an advocate for consumers.”
Last month, Judge Davila of the Northern District of California appointed Blatt to the Plaintiff’s Executive Committee in In re: Apple Device Performance Litigation (“Apple”), consumer litigation concerning allegations that certain Apple devices are defective and that iOS updates subsequently negatively affected the performance of Apple devices.
Blatt focuses her practice on complex and class litigation, including consumer protection, data privacy, and serious personal injury cases. In addition to her appointments in the Apple and Intel cases, she currently serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in the Yahoo data breach litigation and as co-liaison counsel in In re: Incretin Mimetics Product Liability Litigation.
