CARTES in Asia 2011 visitor attendance up 8% on 2010
CARTES in Asia, the trade show on digital security and smart-card technology, which took place for the second time in Hong Kong, between 29 and 31 March 2011, attracted over 3,000 visitors from 61 countries - an increase of 8% on 2010. Over 120 smart-technology companies from across the globe participated in the event, including American Express, Datacard, Eastcompeace, Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrie.
- (1888PressRelease) May 11, 2011 - Michael Weatherseed, Security Business Event Director at Comexposium, which organised the trade show, reported an increase in numbers in attendance across the exhibition and conference: "We were delighted to see world leaders Amex, Gemalto and Giesecke & Devrient join the exhibition this year. This reflects the growing strength of CARTES in Asia and the importance of the smart-technologies market in the Asia-Pacific region. We also saw a significant growth in visitors from [South] Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines."
Visitors came from across the globe, mainly from Asia-Pacific countries - i.e. from mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand - but also from across Europe, the Middle East and the USA. Representatives from companies in the banking, electronics, telecoms, IT-security and smart-card manufacturing sectors came to discover the latest innovative technologies in card manufacturing, authentication solutions, payment solutions and mobile security.
The main issues discussed during the conference were mobile payments and services, Near-Field-Communication (NFC) technology and contactless applications, e-transactions and e-banking, payment-card readers and terminals, the Internet of Things, and Machine-to Machine (M2M) applications.
Exhibitors came from 23 countries, including Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates and the USA. The exhibition also featured pavilions from mainland China and France.
Cynthia Wong, Director of Marketing for the Asia-Pacific region of exhibitor HID Global, said: "As one of the most established and large-scale card and payment exhibitions in Asia, CARTES in Asia offered us a dynamic platform to showcase a broad spectrum of smart-card applications and innovations. During the prolific three-day programme, we managed to reach top-notch attendees from the Asia-Pacific market and various other regions. In addition to being a market-leading exhibition and conference, CARTES in Asia gave the event's organisers the opportunity to reveal the winner of the Asian SESAMES Awards. Gemalto won the top award with their Smart Badge Holder, which enables employees to use their corporate badges in order to access their encrypted emails and to sign documents electronically from their smartphones and other devices.
