Carolina Ferrara: Paints Moments in Time

  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) May 27, 2013 - Having been taught to paint by her mother, Carolina Ferrara says that her approach to painting is "instinctive" rather than academic. That instinctive quality shows itself in her compositions, which combine an appealingly relaxed quality with a solid sense of balance. Her subjects are captured with a lack of pretense, but that casual air is tempered with elegance and restraint, resulting in images that appear as perfectly composed moments pulled out of time.

While a pleasing feeling of directness brings the photographer's art to mind, Ferrara's sensitivity to the physical qualities of paint brings her works into a category of their own. We are made strongly aware of the paint itself, but that awareness coexists with the underlying realism of her images in a uniquely productive partnership. Working in oil paint on both canvas and cardboard, Ferrara creates images that she calls "autobiographical," something that is reflected in the personal, intimate quality of her work. But her paintings also bring that intimate world vividly to life for the viewer.

The artist currently lives and works in Pordenone, Italy.

    About the Exhibition
June is an exciting month at Angora Gallery this year, with three memorable exhibitions to get the summer off to a great start. The Manifestation of Milieu shows artists taking the familiar and adding a sense of the unusual to it, with each work of art becoming a window into a world similar to ours, but where anything seems possible. In Pulse of Abstraction, a feeling of energy, movement and fulfilling life infuses the works, reaching out to touch the audience and encourage us to respond with courage and conviction. In Kaneko Johkoh's solo exhibition, thoughtful consideration merges with an attractively impulsive method to create Sumi ink paintings of power and potency. The exhibitions open on June 4, 2013 and continue until June 25, 2013, with an opening reception on the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2013. Entrance is free and art lovers are invited to attend and refresh themselves with inspiring, evocative art.
