About Moonwater Dance Project
During a successful professional dance career, founder Mackenzie King experienced and witnessed personally, as did many of her colleagues, a disturbing climate in which individual talent and artistry are ignored, dancers minds and bodies not honored and disregard for personal spirit.
When Dana Alsamsam created Moonwater Dance Project and hired Mackenzie to be a part of a small, one-time performance, each of her dancer’s commitments and talent was valued by creating an artistic, emotional, and physically fulfilling performance piece. This fresh ideal, contrary to previous less collaborative experiences, left Mackenzie inspired and she vowed to keep that environment alive and growing. Ultimately Ms. Alsamsam generously gifted the name, as well as the company’s first piece of repertoire to Ms. King and Moonwater Dance Project was founded as a non-profit organization in 2018.
Mackenzie's laser focus is on artistry, individuality and the ability to be vulnerable. Artists love what they do yet often are taken advantage of and receive far less than deserved. Ms. King's dream is to honor the passion and sacrifice without lessening the quality of life.
The aesthetic of Moonwater Dance Project is similar to water and has a captivating duality, soft yet strong, nurturing and destructive; a force to be reckoned with, unpredictable and utterly calming.
