Carlomaria talks about La Moresca's during a walk in Marina di Ragusa with Jennifer Hathaway a famous American landscape architect
The last time that Jennifer and I worked together was some years ago in Playa del Carmel in Yucatan were we realized a wonderful five stars resort and that has been a great success. Then, I come back to Italy and I invested three years in developing and launching a new project in Venice (this time the project was strictly entertainment tied).
- (1888PressRelease) August 22, 2010 - That means that I had a three years lack in the hospitality trends … You can say that three years can be a short time but believe me … three years can become an Age. Moreover, I had to face the Sicilian challenge.
Several things were involving me … my divorce, the twenty years friendship that tied me with Guido Schembari, the owner of the property of La Moresca. The Sicilian market that has been always low profiled apart Taormina and so on. Honestly, I have to confess that I know quite well Sicily, as a touristic destination and by the way, I was apparently sure of what I had to create. The property owner gives to me a total decision power but a strong enemy was just around the corner … the crisis was there and started to block the tourist market. I invested several nights in long international phone call to confront myself with my colleagues that were living and fighting abroad. The answer was always the sameː Carlomaria be careful! Guys, of course I had to be carful but I had also so many decisions to take, one construction site to guide, one owner to reassure and not demotivate…
After a while I token my decision, the product that I wanted and that I had to design was a real dreaming "maison de charme" that had to embrace the luxury targeted guest in a thru ancient styled, aristocratic, Sicilian hug … this was the approach and the consequence should be the marketing campaign, the international positioning, etc. … All that, during a full economical crisis ... I do not want to make it too long but I spent several white nights asking me if I was right or wrong. The final answer wasː do not give up, go ahead ... motivate the people you have around … you are the responsible because you are the professional. That was thru. However, I was alone.
The result is now under our eyes La Moresca, maison de charme, is open. The staff is prepared and is taking care of our international clientele. After 5 month, our occupancy is around the 50%. The response to a questioner we rotate around told to us that our clientele chooses La Moresca because the communication reflected the spirit of our enthusiasm and the tailored services and approach we designed and we have respected the coherence of our decisions and product design.
What we have to do now Ɂ … well, we have to keep keen the service end our cocooning approach to our clientele. For example, right now I am choosing all the bedclothes in pure Italian linen. Another important step will be to choose, for the coming fall, a clever partner for our web marketing…
However, as you know, the first real important thing is that our staff is committed to our approach and is proud to fight with us. We all are proud to represent an important part of Sicily and a rare unknown Sicilian way of life. Welcome in Sicily and welcome at la Moresca my friend.
