Career Step Publishes New Infographic on Careers in Electronic Health Records
Career Step released a new infographic exploring the healthcare industry's shift to electronic health records and the thousands of new jobs expected for EHR professionals in the coming years.
- (1888PressRelease) March 12, 2014 - Career Step, an online school providing career-focused education, released an infographic on the healthcare industry's shift to electronic health records (EHR). The new infographic illustrates the motivation behind the transition, the thousands of new jobs that will be added as a result in the coming years, and the responsibilities of the individuals filling those roles.
"In the last few years, healthcare has begun the monumental shift to electronic health records," said Jerolyn Robertson, Career Step Vice President of Academics. "This move is creating tens of thousands of new jobs for professionals specifically trained on EHR systems. We designed our Career Step training program to help students gain the EHR-specific skills they need to succeed in these positions in addition to teaching them how to manage the day-to-day operations of an office, verify insurance information, schedule appointments and more."
In addition to providing information on healthcare's transition to electronic records and the resulting job growth, the new infographic also explains how the EHR change is creating new positions and affecting the responsibilities of others. Some of these positions include medical receptionists, medical administrative assistants, and electronic health records office specialists. There is also information on average income for these positions and the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as an EHR professional.
"With the healthcare market expected to generate millions of new jobs in the next few years, it can be very overwhelming to figure out which area is the best fit for you when considering a new healthcare career," said Ryan Ewer, Career Step Vice President of Enrollments and Marketing. "Our healthcare focus has allowed us to see firsthand the shift to EHR in our employer partners, and we developed our Electronic Health Records Office Professional program because we saw the need the transition was creating for administrative professionals with EHR-specific skills. Our new infographic is intended to provide a quick and easy way for students to explore this new career opportunity."
The Career Step Electronic Health Records Office Professional program provides hands-on training with industry-standard, government-certified EHR software. The program also prepares students for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) credential exams. Earning one or both of these credentials after graduation gives graduates access to more career opportunities by providing proof of their expertise for employers and helping them stand out in the job market.
