Captain Planet Recognizes Waldorf Schools for their Environmental Education
The Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) will receive The Captain Planet Foundation's Green School Award for their excellence in environmental education.
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) December 06, 2012 - Green Meadow Waldorf School has taken significant initiative to create an environment that mirrors the sustainability efforts of the larger Waldorf Education movement. Some of their many initiatives include recycling, composting, and promoting waste-free lunches. They also emphasize awareness by enriching their classrooms' work with ecological content, as well as educating the school community on responsible "green" choices.
On Friday, December 7, at the Captain Planet Foundation's annual gala and fundraising event, Waldorf Schools will be awarded the Green School Award. AWSNA will represent the Waldorf Schools in accepting the award.
Waldorf Schools are receiving the Green School Award for their excellence in environmental education, recognizing their philosophy of sustainability and stewardship. Waldorf Schools are deeply committed to environmentalism. Throughout the US, these schools make every effort to co-exist in a positive relationship with the Earth and prepare their students to be environmentalists on the deepest levels. These strong values are embedded in all aspects of the Waldorf School.
At the annual Benefit Gala, the Captain Planet Foundation will be honoring Eco-visionaries President Jimmy Carter and Sir Richard Branson. This annual charitable event raises funds for Captain Planet Foundation's mission, which supports environmental education programs for the next generation of global change-makers.

Nearly 350 students from 13 counties and almost 90 towns attend the independent Green Meadow Waldorf School. Located about 20 miles north of New York City, Green Meadow serves students from nursery school through grade 12.
Waldorf education is the fastest-growing independent school movement worldwide, with 300 schools in the U.S. and nearly 1,000 around the world. The curriculum is based on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, who founded the first Waldorf School in Germany in 1919.
