Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2011 - The Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association (GBMCAA) presents its "Annual MoreJazz Scholarship Weekend" with the soul-stirring harmony of the world-renown Morehouse College Glee Club performing at Boston's Old South Church, on Friday, Mar. 11; doors will open at 6 p.m. The concert marks the start of a two-day fundraising celebration to support the GBMCAA Scholarship Fund. Saturday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m., Day Two of MoreJazz Scholarship Weekend features MoreJazz Gala Dinner/Awards and Concert and 'Round Midnite" Postlude. This event will be held at the Renaissance Hotel, the MoreJazz Scholarship Weekend will celebrate the lifetime achievements of three professionals who have had a major influence on education in the Boston area. GBMCAA will bestow its highest awards to recently appointed UN Ambassador Carol Fulp, vice president, Community Relations and Sponsorship at John Hancock, a longtime supporter of educational initiatives; Reverend Dr. Gregory G. Groover, pastor of Charles Street AME Church, Roxbury and Boston Public School Committee Chair; and John S. Wilson Jr., Ed.D, executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Mr. Wilson is also president emeritus at MIT, where he also served as director of foundation relations and assistant provost from 1985-2001.
The MoreJazz Weekend Dinner/Award Gala will be followed by a concert featuring Grammy Award winner, jazz/soul singer Chrisette Michele. Morehouse College is marking its144th year of producing Renaissance men, dedicated, outstanding men and extraordinary leaders to serve humanity with a spiritual consciousness. The GBMAA has hosted the Morehouse Glee Club Concerts since 1977; the concert has been held at the Old South Church for more than 20 years.
