Canadian Geographic Nod Kicks Off Second Decade for BookFest Windsor
BookFest Windsor kicks off its second decade with a nod from Canadian Geographic magazine and a return to The Capitol Theatre.
- (1888PressRelease) September 05, 2012 - BookFest Windsor, one of North America's most notable literary festivals, kicks off its second decade with a return to its original home, The Capitol Theatre and Arts Centre in downtown Windsor, Ontario, as well as with a nod from Canadian Geographic. "What an honour to be included in Canadian Geographic's list of top literary festivals in Canada," says Lenore Langs, Chair of the BookFest Windsor Committee. "And it comes to us at a wonderful time, just a few weeks before the festival opens."
"This is a stellar line up of authors and illustrators for our 11th year - from first class fiction with Anita Rau Badami and Alison Pick, to Canada's unruly history told by Richard Gwyn, James Laxer and Noah
Richler - and the world-renowned poetry of Thomas Lynch, says Sarah Jarvis, Author Coordinator for BookFest Windsor 2012. "You'll be able to say you met the greats here." The festival runs from October 25th to the 27th, 2012.
BookFest highlights include:
•John Ralston Saul, award-winning essayist, novelist, and current President of PEN International
headlines the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) program Friday evening.
•Book illustrator and film animator, Sheldon Cohen, best known for The Sweater, the animated film of Roch Carrier's classic children's book, will participate in the Illustration panel Friday afternoon. In addition, Mr. Cohen will present an hour-long compilation of his NFB film
animation.
• Award-winning author, poet and Michigan resident Thomas Lynch makes his first visit to BookFest Windsor. His two
appearances include the Poetry Café on Saturday afternoon.
• Saturday evening, author and former National Post literary columnist Noah Richler (This is My Country. What's Yours? What We Talk About When We Talk About War) joins one of Canada's best-known and most highly respected political columnists, Richard Gwyn, and award-winning author James Laxer (Discovering America, The Border, Techumseh and Brock: The War of 1812) to discuss Canada's past and future military role, moderated by former Journalist of the Year Veronique Mandal.
