Canada Publishes Changes to Toys Regulations
Canada has published Toys Regulations SOR/2016-302, which makes several editorial changes to SOR/2011-17.
- (1888PressRelease) March 03, 2017 - Canada has made several editorial changes to its regulations concerning toys. These amendments do not significantly change the manufacturer's obligations because they primarily consist of updates and administrative changes.
These changes include:
• Definitions of "Good Scientific Practices" and "Human Experience Data"
• Editorial changes to Section 7 'Small Parts'. There are no changes to the requirements
• Simplifying and clarifying Sections 26 and 27
• Removal of Section 43 and Schedule 9 concerning out-of-date battery technology
• Schedule 2 and 3 amendments - relating to ways of determining a product is toxic
It should be noted that the changes to Sections 26 and 27 include the removal of a reference to Phthalates Regulations (SOR/2016-188) but this regulation is still in force and still applies to toys.
SOR/2016-302 was published on November 25, 2016, updating Toys Regulations SOR/2011-17.
