Campbell Law School Confers 143 Juris Doctor Degrees At 2012 Graduation Ceremony
First Class To Spend Entire Tenure At New Raleigh Location Graduates.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) May 17, 2012 - Melissa Essary, dean of the Campbell Law School (http://law.campbell.edu), has announced that Campbell Law School conferred 143 Juris Doctor degrees at its 34th annual hooding and graduation ceremony on May 11 in Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The 2012 class marks the first in Campbell Law history to spend its entire tenure in its new Raleigh location.
Gen. William K. Suter, Clerk of the United States Supreme Court, delivered the commencement address. In his remarks, Suter spoke at length about character, leadership, and the importance of integrity. He urged each graduate to read about great leaders and learn as much about leadership as possible, and he used George Washington and his leadership both at war and as the first President of the United States as a powerful example. Suter spoke of the importance of listening as well and cautioned the graduates not to take themselves too seriously.
Patrick Newman of Beaufort, N.C., received one of the degrees as a part of the class. As a paraplegic, Newman enjoyed much more accessible Raleigh location as compared to the older Buies Creek one. Since Campbell Law School moved to downtown Raleigh in 2009, Newman was able to enjoy most of his college career at the new location.

DETAILS:
- As the Clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court, Suter manages the Supreme Court's docket, records and calendar, oversees the Supreme Court Bar, and attends all oral arguments. He has served in that role since 1991, and is the 19th person to hold the position.
- Suter sits on the Campbell Law School Board of Visitors as well.
