- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) September 29, 2010 - Farella Braun + Martel LLP has been selected by the California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) as the 2010 recipient of its Drucilla Stender Ramey Majority-Owned Law Firm Award. This recognition comes on the heels of the firm's selection by the State Bar of California as its 2010 Diversity Award recipient.
"It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from the California Minority Counsel Program and further testament to the hard work of our Diversity Committee and the firm as a whole," said managing partner Steve Lowenthal. "We are proud to be a member of the CMCP and honored to help further its mission of promoting and celebrating diversity in the legal profession."
The Drucilla Stender Ramey Majority-Owned Law Firm Award is presented annually to a majority-owned law firm member of the CMCP who has "demonstrated the strongest commitment to diversity." A firm's commitment is evaluated by: the total number of minority attorneys in the firm; the total number of minority attorneys in partnership or leadership roles in the firm; and the firm's community service efforts.
Farella's Diversity Program has four core components: an internal commitment to recruit, retain and promote diverse attorneys within the firm; the Diversity Pipeline Internship Program, which provides diverse and/or disadvantaged high school students with exposure to the legal profession through summer internship programs; the Pipeline Scholarship Program, which has awarded $25,000 annually to first-year San Francisco Bay Area law students from socially and ethnically diverse backgrounds; and an evolving Diversity Committee that oversees these efforts and works actively inside the firm to promote and celebrate diversity. In addition to its CMCP involvement, Farella is an active member of U.C. Hastings College of the Law's Project for Attorney Retention (PAR) program and a contributor to Bar Association of San Francisco's (BASF) diversity programs.
The California Minority Counsel Program will present Farella Braun + Martel LLP with the Drucilla Stender Ramey Majority-Owned Law Firm Award during its "Beauty of Diversity" business conference taking place Sept. 30 to Aug. 1 in San Francisco.
