Cafe Med Deerfield Beach Raises $50k For College And High School Age Suicide Awareness With Tastes Of Tulio Event
Organized by the Jordan Porco Foundation and hosted by Cafe Med Ristorante, the festive Tastes of Tulio wine pairing dinner established in the memory of Jordan Matthew Porco raised $50,000.
- West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL (1888PressRelease) April 23, 2015 - On Friday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m., the public joined the Jordan Porco Foundation for a festive fundraising feast, the first annual "Tastes of Tulio." Guests gathered at the Royal Palm Room of the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort for an evening benefiting the foundation, which Ernie Porco founded in memory of his late son to prevent suicide in high school and college-age populations. Though Executive Chef Tulio Castilla was unable to make the event due to falling ill the night of, unique and fabulous food paired with wines from around the world were splendidly presented by Café Med's Diego Oppo. The evening also included a silent auction with luxurious prizes. Proceeds from tickets, which cost $200 per person, were donated to the Jordan Porco Foundation, raising not only financial backing for the organization, but also awareness and support for the mission. The impressive result: Café Med Deerfield Beach raised an astonishing $50K for college and high school age suicide awareness.
"Chef Tulio was unfortunately unable to attend the fundraising event," says Oppo, "but I was honored to step in and help host an event of such great significance." "If this fundraiser helps make even the slightest difference in the lives of teenagers and young adults facing these challenges, then we are truly moved," he adds.
Guests dined on items such as Balsamic Glace Tuna Tower, including tuna with onions, tomatoes and avocado topped with crispy onions; Shrimp and Radicchio, featuring jumbo shrimp sautéed with garlic and pineapple set inside crispy radicchio; Strozzapreti with Porcini Mushrooms, with fresh pasta sautéed with zucchini, yellow squash and fresh porcini mushrooms in a truffle mascarpone sauce; as well as Bone Marrow, featuring roasted bone marrow served with arugula pesto, raspberry jam and toast points.
Accomplished philanthropist, celebrity spokesperson and anti-bullying advocate Jaclyn Nesheiwat Stapp attended the event as keynote speaker. Stapp spoke intimately of how her and her family have faced and overcome bullying and depression, noting how the two can lead to thoughts of suicide. For Stapp, the national spokesperson for National Voices for Empowerment, Education and Enlightenment (NVEE) and founder of the Children Are Magical Foundation, the subject holds a special place in her heart.

Jordan Porco Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation created in the memory of Jordan Matthew Porco, who died by suicide. The mission of the foundation is to prevent suicide in the high school and college and college-entry student population that is often the end result of significant emotional disorders triggered by stress and/or not recognized within the person until it is too late.
