Exceptional students awarded prestigious scholarship to support their educational journeys.
- Ventura, CA (1888PressRelease) November 04, 2023 - Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), a leading organization dedicated to affordable housing and community development, is thrilled to announce that three outstanding students have been awarded the Rodney Fernandez Leadership Fund (RFLF) Scholarship. Established in 2011 to honor the legacy of CEDC's founding Executive Director, Rodney Fernandez, this scholarship recognizes exceptional academic achievements and community leadership, supporting students in their continued college and trade educations.
Vanessa Montejano, Yesenia Arreola, and David Avina have been recognized for their outstanding educational achievements and the passion they have demonstrated in their respective fields. This scholarship will provide them with the opportunity and financial assistance they need to excel in their educational pursuits.
"All of the applicants worked very hard on their submissions, and it is clear from their essays that there are so many ambitious students who want to help make a difference in a variety of career fields," said Margarita H. de Escontrias, Chief Executive Officer at CEDC. "We are so honored to announce the scholarship recipients this year, and we can't wait to see what they accomplish as they embark on the next chapter of their education."
Vanessa Montejano, one of the scholarship recipients, has stood out among her peers due to her strong work ethic and desire to help others. She plans to pursue Mechanical Engineering, aiming to become the first Mechanical Engineer in her family and graduate with honors. Montejano expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am truly honored and grateful to have been selected for the Rodney Fernandez Leadership Fund Scholarship. I am excited about the many opportunities this scholarship will provide for me."
Yesenia Arreola, another deserving recipient, is dedicated to making a positive impact on the Latinx community through her studies in the Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy program. Arreola says, "I am honored to receive the 2023 RFLF Scholarship. Hopefully, through me, a first-generation Mexican woman earning my master's degree will show younger family members that they can accomplish what they set their minds to."
David Avina, the final scholarship recipient, has a passion for using technology to improve people's lives. He aspires to make a difference by pursuing a degree in Computer Networking/Information Technology. Avina expressed his gratitude, stating, "I will always carry a memory inside me about this organization. My family is also very grateful toward them all. With this scholarship, Rodney's legacy will always continue because the memory of receiving support when we needed it will always remain inside us."
The Rodney Fernandez Scholarship plays a vital role in CEDC's commitment to empowering individuals and communities through education. By recognizing and supporting exceptional students, CEDC aims to inspire future leaders who will make a positive impact on society.
