BudTrader.com Replaces Promo Models with Puppies up for Adoption at San Diego Pride
CEO of Top Marijuana Tech Brand Says Canine Adoption Project May Signal that the Cannabis Industry has Grown Up.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) August 02, 2018 - BudTrader.com, the largest online cannabis marketplace, has taken a new approach to event marketing. At this year’s San Diego LGBT Pride Festival, the brand was without their famous BudTrader Babes, instead filling their booth with puppies available for adoption from local shelters. The attendees of the Pride Festival were lined up to pet and cuddle the adorable dogs, and the brand was able to adopt out quite a few of the animals, while bringing awareness to the need to find homes for shelter animals in San Diego County.
Though the guests at San Diego Pride were loving the puppies and the great cause, more than a few people did notice the absence of the BudTrader Babes, who have been a staple at the BudTrader booths at events and conventions for some time. The Babes, a hand-picked group of women whose past careers range from Instagram star to elementary school teacher to former Miss California, set a world record in April by handing out over 10,000 free joints at the California Cannabis Business Expo.
While he says the Babes are not gone for good, BudTrader CEO Brad McLaughlin said he made the decision to pivot away from using promo models at events because of his love for dogs and his ongoing quest to show the world that cannabis has matured. “At our last big event I started thinking, maybe the ‘booth babe’ phenomena is a thing of the past, it’s been overdone in our industry,” says McLaughlin. “Also, people love puppies. I’m not going to lie, I’m a shameless promoter, I want to attract people to our booth, but if we can find homes for some really cute dogs in the process, it’s a win-win situation.”
“Everybody knows BudTrader is a dog-loving organization,” McLaughlin continues. “We have three office dogs at our Santa Monica headquarters, and they are as much a part of the company as I am.” (You can see pictures of Lola, Melania and Zoe on Instagram at ( @ ) realbudtrader)
In addition to building his online cannabis enterprise into a force to contend with in the industry, McLaughlin has also funnelled BudTrader’s influence and resources into many other charitable causes. “We do what we can. The cannabis industry is growing up, and I want BudTrader leading the charge.”
One of BudTrader’s most talked about contributions was their Holiday Toy Drive in December, when the BudTrader team, along with advertisers on the site, celebrities and members of the community, collected and contributed thousands of toys to the children at The Foothill Regional Medical Center, as part of a toy drive helmed by MMA legend Chuck Liddell and his wife Heidi.
The environment is also a favorite cause for McLaughlin and the BudTrader team. This summer, the BudTrader team, along with local cannabis business owners and members of the community showed up in force to clean the beaches near the original BudTrader Campus in San Diego, California. In one afternoon, the group collected 420 pounds of trash from the beaches, streams, and surrounding wetlands.
BudTrader.com users can post and respond to free classifieds-style ads which are centered around cannabis and the cannabis industry. Similar to Craigslist, BudTrader is available by region, and currently operates in all 29 states where cannabis is medically or recreationally legal, as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and Canada.
