Budgeted Tourism Projects To Be Developed In Kerala
The Tourism Department of Kerala is coming up with 57 new tourism projects in the state, all of which are expected to start in a month. The total project inlay is around 46 crore rupees and is specifically envisaged to not just give a boost to the tourism prospects in Kerala but also to cater to the budget travelers from within and outside the country.
- (1888PressRelease) July 03, 2010 - Some of the projects in this plan include the development of a tourism centre at Kallar and Nallathanni in Idukki district, each at a cost of Rs.1 crore. The proposed tourism park at Ramackalmedu will focus on non-conventional energy while a transit yard near Sabarimala in Pathanamthitta district will ease the travel woes of pilgrims to this ancient hill shrine. Plans are also afoot to set up a tourist park around Mannom Sugar Mill.
The toursim projects on the anvil lay special emphasis on culture and heritage as well and one of the important projects in this plan include the Muziris Heritage Project which involves setting up of museums, resource mapping and excavations at Kottappuram, Pallippuram forts and in Cheramanparambu, which are of archeological importance. The bio-park developed at Pathiramanal in Alappuzha district is another project and a bridge will be constructed on the Kayippuram-Pathiramanal Jetty road to make it easily accessible.
To promote and propogate the classical artforms, a music hall will be constructed in Chembai village in Palakkad district. Some of the other interesting projects include a hanging bridge across Beyam Kayal in Malappuram district and city squares in Thrissur and at Sultan Bathery in Wayanad district. The open spaces like Putharikandam Maidan in Thiruvananthapuram and the Durbar Hall grounds in Ernakulam will also be modernized. To add further impetus to the tourism prospects of Kumarakom a cultural centre, walkways and a lake view platform will be built.
The small, unexplored and reclusive beaches in Northern Kerala that have largely remained out of the tourist map of Kerala will also be developed. These include beaches at Kasaragod, Kottumburam in Malappuram district and Payyambalam, Keezhunna and Gosaikunnu in Vadakara district.
