  • Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2013 - Bucks County Mediation and Arbitration Center (BCMAC), is pleased to announce that Founder Barbara N. Lyons, Esq. has been named the 2013 recipient of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Second Annual V.I.A. Women in Business Leadership Award. Lyons received the award at the Chamber's Women in Business Annual Awards Dinner on June 6, 2013. Carol Aichele, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, delivered a keynote address during the event.

    "I'm honored to be recognized by the Bucks County Chamber of Commerce for my work as an arbitrator and mediator and for the community," said Lyons. "I am fortunate to work in an industry where I can provide services and guidance to people who are in need of legal advice and alternative dispute resolution services. I'm very grateful to have been recognized as I am passionate about helping people resolve complex legal differences."

    The V.I.A. Women in Business Leadership Award is presented each year to the businesswoman who excels in her field and exhibits qualities such as persistence, presence, integrity, professionalism and the ability to overcome obstacles. Recipients are also noted role models who demonstrate compassion and commitment to the Bucks County community.

    Lyons founded the Bucks County Mediation and Arbitration Center (BCMAC) in Doylestown, Pa. to provide alternatives to traditional litigation. She has practiced law since 1981 having served as both a defense and plaintiffs' attorney. She is the Chairman of the Doylestown Township Board of Supervisors and has served as Chairman of the Doylestown Township's Park and Recreation Board. She chairs the township's annual Golf Outing and has chaired the Oktoberfest.

    Lyons has volunteered time and talents to numerous organizations and has provided pro bono legal representation to abused women for nearly three decades. She serves as President of CB Cares Educational Foundation and is a counselor to women and families in transition. Most recently, Lyons helped create the Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Program for Bucks County.

    As a member of the Senate Advisory Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution, Lyons works to create systems of alternative dispute resolution throughout the Commonwealth. She helped create the mediation program for the Bucks County civil court system which provides the alternative of mediation to litigation. She has also served as a member of the faculty at the ABA Advanced Mediation Institute.

    A multiple-term director for the Bucks County Bar Association, Lyons was awarded the Bucks County Bar Association Pro Bono Publico Award and the PBA Pro Bono Award in 2008. She was the founder and editor of the newsletter for the BCBA, a member of the Women's Law Division and serves as a trustee to the Charitable Foundation for the Bucks County Bar Association.
