Buchanan, Michigan presents "Non-Pareil" Saturday September 3rd during Labor Day Weekend
Southwest Michigan's Gateway to Wine Country to feature wine, craft brews, live music, artists and artisans, food, shopping, civil war reenactments and much more over labor day weekend.
- (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2011 - Buchanan, MI -- From noon until 10:00pm, one of Michigan's newest National Register Historic Districts will come alive on Saturday, September 3rd with its 3rd Annual "Nonpareil" Buchanan event.
Join us for breakfast at 6:00am at Buchanan's iconic "Back Door Café" in downtown Buchanan, then begin your shopping excursion by visiting local stores or walking to the Buchanan Farmers Market to choose from a wide variety of fresh foods and produce from 8:00am onward.
At 10:00am, the historic Pears Mill opens, where you'll learn 19th century milling, as well as spinning, fiber arts, crafting with gourds and blacksmithing. Book selling specific to area history and the Civil War, as well as a Civil War Artifact exhibit will also be available for viewing.
During the day, Civil War re-enactors, both Union and Confederate, will be present. This part of the event will feature full dress civil war era enactment (including live artillery) in the vicinity of Pears Mill, McCoy Creek and the Buchanan Commons. There will also be a special feature highlighting Hannah Carlisle and family, who was a well known Civil War era Nurse.
At Noon you can learn more about Buchanan, Michigan, the Gateway to Michigan's Wine Country, with the opening of the Round Barn Wine and Craft Brew Garden sponsored by the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce. Opening with the Round Barn Wine and Craft Brew Garden is musical sensation D.J. Justin Lovelady, who will fill Buchanan's streets with the music.
Concurrent with the above, you can continue with shopping at area shops and galleries, or stop and take a break to enjoy a delicious lunch or brunch on Buchanan's Front and Main Streets. Featured at various locations, are artists and artisans offering goods under tents and in transitioning 19th century buildings. There you will find fine art, furnishings, antiques, textiles, custom jewelry, sculpture and more.

At 5:00pm Buchanan is proud to announce the opening of live music festivities featuring Monte Michel Blue, followed by Jazz musicians, The Juli Wood Trio, until 10:00pm.
Highlighting Buchanan's food scene will be the Union Coffee House in the 1867 Roe Block. With its Rancilio Green Machine, Union Coffee House offers the best espresso and cup of coffee between Chicago and Ann Arbor with Italian method trained baristas, using organic, fair trade coffee. McCoy Creek Tavern offers one of the areas widest varieties of craft brews and foods. B & W Olde Village Tavern will feature its early Fall Fare, soups, and Greek salads. Sonnys well known fried
chicken dinners and drinks will be at the ready, as will be Hilltop Café's well known Greek fare. Wheatberry Tavern & Restaurant will be open with its well known menu. Vallone's Sweeties will be popping cheese corn and caramel corn all day and serving up Sherman's ice cream. The Sweet Shop with its 1940's vintage soda fountain, located in the 1867 Molsberry, Dunbar, Eply Block, will feature Hudsonville ice cream delights.

The Buchanan Museum of Fine Art will be exhibiting internationally known artist, Harry Ahn, together with exhibits of selected works of American and European fine art. The Buchanan Art Center will be exhibiting selected art works in its galleries, as well as "Walk Thru Raku" where visitors buy a bowl, glaze it, RAKU fire it, and take it home!
