  • Santa Ana-Anaheim-Irvine, CA (1888PressRelease) September 28, 2011 - Restaurateur Bruno Serato, owner of the highly acclaimed Anaheim White House, has been named a 2011 Top 10 CNN Hero for founding Caterina's Club, which feeds 50,000 underprivileged "motel kids" each year. Every evening for the past six years, Serato and his staff have prepared hot meals for the youngsters who are so named because their poor, working-class parents are relegated to living in low-cost motel rooms. To ensure that nothing prevents the deliveries from being made, Serato purchased a fully equipped van to facilitate the deliveries and make sure that the region's most vulnerable population, its children, receive a hot meal before they are tucked into bed.

"I'm humbled by this latest honor, which is particularly valuable in that it shines a spotlight on the growing problem of hunger in the U.S.," said Serato.

CNN Heroes has presented Bruno Serato with a $50,000 grant for his Caterina's Club to help finance his project. Serato will also be honored during "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute," a global event that will air on CNN on December 11, 2011 at 5 p.m. (PST). Serato is among 10 CNN Heroes who are being considered as CNN's "Hero of the Year", earning them an additional $250,000 for their cause. The public will select the CNN Hero of the Year and can cast their vote by visiting http://heroes.cnn.com.

Serato has been honored for his efforts with Caterina Club numerous times, including the Cornerstone Humanitarian of the Year Award and Humanitarian of the Year honor from the Southern California Restaurant Writers Association.
