BRS Media Stunned by GAC Observer's unauthorized use of Trademark
The European Broadcast Union and its sister union's use of trademark logo was not authorized.
- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) November 28, 2012 - BRS Media, a diverse and growing media e-commerce firm that helps traditional and interactive media companies build and brand on the power of the Internet, sent a direct letter to ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) Chair Ms. Heather Dryden detailing the "unauthorized use" of ICANN's trademark logo by the European Broadcast Union (EBU).
On at least two separate occasions, the EBU and its sister union International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) in association with The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) used ICANN's trademark logo on it's website and blog, with regards to endorsements and information regarding EBU's application for .RADIO. The use of this trademark logo in endorsement blogs and EBU's website was allegedly meant to confuse and deceive the Radio Industry by inferring ICANN's endorsement of the EBU's .RADIO Application.
"Having an organization that sits on the Governmental Advisory Committee, as an Observer, systematically use poor judgement by infringing on another's Intellectual property is beyond unacceptable." remarked George T. Bundy, Chairman & CEO of BRS Media Inc. "The Internet Community should be outraged by a GAC Observer and New gTLD Applicant's unauthorized usage of another's trademark. The EBU has applied to operate two Top-Level Domains in the New gTLD process, but noticeably lacks the understanding of trademark and rights protections, which are among the highest priorities in the New gTLD process."
In the letter to GAC Chair Ms. Heather Dryden, BRS Media noted, the European Broadcasting Union should immediately recuse itself from the Governmental Advisory Committee and step down as a GAC Observer. A copy of the letter is available at: http://www.brsmedia.fm/GAC_EBU.pdf (.pdf)
