  • (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2010 - Among the 100 Breton exhibitors taking part in SIAL 2010, 35 will be set up in sector-specific pavilions, such as Hall 5A (beverages, biscuits, sweet products, groceries, seafood and deli products), Hall 5B (intermediary food products or IFPs), Hall 6 (meat, meat products and tripe, poultry and frozen foods), and Hall 8 (organic products and fine foods). These Breton companies are supported by the Brittany Trade Consortium (COCEB).

Visitors will also find the Brittany - Trends & Innovation pavilion (Booth L42), which is located in the Régions de France area (Hall 5A). There, they will find a stand where a chef will be creating new recipes from exhibited products. This regional booth will highlight this year's 50 new products, in keeping with four major market trends: sustainable development and responsible products, nutrition and well-being, quick meals, and the culinary arts.

    Sustainable development and responsible products

Brasserie Britt has designed the KeyKeg®, a revolutionary packaging system for beer. This packaging, which is made from 100% recyclable cardboard, provides better preservation of the drink after opening. It contains Celtika, a blonde beer, which has been created to mark the brewery's 10-year anniversary, and has been awarded the Public's Gold Medal at last year's World Beer festival.

    Nutrition and well-being

Marie Morin is a company that specialises in making traditional milk-based desserts. It has come up with a new range of plain yoghurt made from buffalo milk. The milk has exceptional nutritional benefits, and has a higher calcium, protein and iron content than cow's milk. Above all, buffalo milk is low in fat, hence recommended in terms of cholesterol levels.

A specialist in seafood processing and manufacture, Meralliance is launching a fish sausage. The Amoric sausage is available in three flavours: albacore tuna and walnuts, peppered tuna, and salmon chorizo.

    Quick meals

A brand known for its pâtés and potted fish, Guyader Gastronomie is renewing its collection of starters with an original range of mini-pots, "like grandma used to make", to be enjoyed hot. Small gratins, stewed scallops, stewed shrimp and other recipes will provide an alternative to traditional appetisers.

Le Monde des Crêpes' frozen mini-pancakes are tasty and easy to cook. They come in morello cherry and caramel apple flavour, and can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

    The culinary arts

Les Comptoirs de Saint Malo has reinvented the famous Breton salted-butter caramel spread, by adding a cognac-based liqueur distilled with bitter orange extracts. The Caramalo is glucose-free and preservative-free, and is best served in Grand Marnier fashion, with crêpes and ice-cream.

The scallop is traditionally served with the finest dishes, and Primel Gastronomie has developed a new recipe which comes in the form of 12 pre-cooked, frozen mini scallops. The Compagnie Artique brand includes three recipes, whereby the food items are ready after seven minutes in the oven. This product range is bound to prove popular at dinner parties or cocktail parties.

The Brittany - Trends & Innovation area, at the cutting edge of technology

Thanks to its partnership with GS1 (the supply-chain standards system), Brittany has an exclusive offer for SIAL 2010 visitors who own a smartphone: they can retrieve information on Breton products by scanning the items' barcodes. Using the Code Online service developed by GS1, users can then collect the full range of data on their mobile phones, including product descriptions, production volume, and preservation details, together with information on the manufacturer, workforce and turnover.

Stretching across a 125m² space, the Brittany - Trends & Innovation pavilion is sponsored by the Brittany Regional Council, the Brittany Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCEB), the Valorial competitiveness cluster, the Brittany Innovation regional agency, and the Made in Brittany Association. These five institutional partners were in charge of selecting the 50 new products which are being showcased at the trade show.
