Breakthrough Nutrition Signs Triathlete Andrea Bess
Big Island triathlete, Andrea Bess, has signed on to represent Breakthrough Nutrition. Andrea is an up and coming age group athlete who has two finishes at the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
- (1888PressRelease) March 24, 2012 - Kihei, HI - Breakthrough Nutrition has signed Hawaii triathlete, Andrea Bess, as her official sports nutrition sponsor. Andrea is a talented up and coming multi sport athlete who has already amassed quite a resume' in the last few years.
Andrea was born and raised in the Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her passion for spreading the message of a healthy lifestyle led her to obtain a degree in Physical Education. After graduating from the University of Florianopolis, she worked in the fitness industry from 1998-2006 as a personal trainer and life coach.
In 2006, Andrea got her first taste of the triathlon and moved to the Big Island of Hawai'i to pursue her newfound calling. Even though she got a later start than most triathletes, it has not slowed her down in the least. In the last 5 years she has already completed 9 Iron Distance races including 2 Ironman World Championship finishes. She has done all of this while working as a personal trainer and endurance coach. Andrea said that she would end up working out with all of her clients and then have to complete her own daily workouts. The stress and fatigue took its toll and left her injured for the 2011 Ironman World Championship race.
After crossing the finish line, she knew a change had to be made if she wanted to be a successful triathlete. This year she has taken a slight step back from her coaching and trainer role and has also employed Thomas Volnach as her new triathlon coach. She started the year off with a 1st place finish at the 2012 Mini Monster 70.3 triathlon and followed that up with another 1st place finish at the XTERRA Philippines 21k Trail Run last week.
Even though Andrea has taken a step back in her professional life to focus on triathlon, she has not wavered in her efforts when it comes to giving back to the community. She was part of a group of Big Island triathletes who traveled to the Philippines late last year on a goodwill mission, delivering athletic, school and medical supplies to area villages. Before the trip, she was out in the local community organizing bike rides and coordinating multiple events to raise money for the Filipino students in need.
Andrea has immersed herself in Hawaii and and is supported by some great local organizations including The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, Bikeworks Beach and Sports, Planet Sun and national sponsor, Rudy Project.
