  • (1888PressRelease) April 05, 2015 - KAMPALA, UGANDA - Friends Orphanage School (FOS), founder Pastor Ruhasha Frsian Dickson, is home and school to 421 children. Those residing at FOS include 35 kids who have lost one or both parents; 63 who have been abandoned; and another 324 receive FOS services during day and return to their homes. They currently look after children ages 4 - 18 years providing them with basic care and protection, and primary education. FOS has minimum required facilities and personnel to handle the work it is mandated to do.

The overall objectives of the Orphanage are to:
    • Encourage Christian values in the children.
    • Provide education and training for the children that should lead to self reliance.
    • Integrate affected children who have gone through FOS orphanage into their families and community.

Pastor Ruhasha identified the need to create the FOS based on a number of factors, chief among them is HIV AIDS and wide spread poverty. There has been acute increase in the number of children needing care and support. While such children used to be looked after by the extended family, there is evidence that the extended family system is overstretched with direct negative impact to community responsibility to the needs of the affected children. This situation has led to growing number of children who are left helpless and usually resolve to become street dwellers, occasional sex workers for the teenage girls, and child laborers.

The local situation in Kisugu which is a suburb of Kampala city that is mainly slum-dwelling occupied by low income earners or unemployed people. In this area, communities are faced with challenges ranging from poor environment health and sanitation, lack of water and poor housing.

Pastor Ruhasha is seeking a "Donor Agency" that will become a financial supporter to help:
    • Provide at least 2 hot meals a day for the FOS children.
    • Ensure reduction of malnutrition/under nutrition among the children.
    • Increase their lesson attendance
    • Reduce the frequency of the children falling sick.
    • Improve the physical growth and development of the affected children.

The Pastor has a complete project plan to make this a sucessful sustainable project for any interested organization. Contact him directly at: +256(772)692-476
