Brazil Publishes Proposal to Revise Some Food Contact Requirements

  • (1888PressRelease) January 27, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that Brazil is proposing changes to its resolution covering food contact packaging, utensils, lids and metallic equipment.

    The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) on January 5, 2023, that it intended to make multiple revisions.

    SGS has now published SafeGuardS 006.23 to give stakeholders an overview of the proposed changes. It contains a table that highlights the main amendments being proposed, including provisions relating to:
    • Impurities
    • Products made from stainless steel alloys
    • Products made from aluminum (+ its alloys)

    The draft resolution was attached to WTO document number 23-0120. It contains several important changes to Collegiate Board Resolution – RDC No. 20 March 22, 2007, as amended by Collegiate Board Resolution – RDC No. 498 of May 20, 2021.

    Comments will be accepted until March 6, 2023.
