  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) February 09, 2011 - Lash and Associates Publishing, a leading publisher of brain injury resources for adults, children and veterans, has announced the release of a new workbook by writer and journaling instructor, Barbara Stahura and Susan B. Schuster. Titled, After Brain Injury: Telling Your Story - A Journaling Workbook, this innovative and comprehensive workbook is the first journaling book written specifically for people with brain injury. This workbook guides survivors of brain injury through a series of writing exercises that help victims examine and express the many ways brain injury has affected and altered their lives.

"Whether you are a person with a brain injury or a family member, I highly recommend a few minutes of journaling as often as you can. Research has shown that journaling for only 15 minutes for three or four days in a row can have significant physical and emotional health benefits," says Ms. Stahura.

"Keeping a journal is a positive, healing thing you can do for yourself during difficult times. It's also a way to celebrate life's successes and joys. Giving yourself permission to keep a journal is the first step."

The journaling workbook is broken down in sections with an emphasis on progression towards recovery. The topics include a changing sense of self, memory loss, altered relationships, anger, grief and other emotions, facing the future, building hope, and moving forward. The format of the workbook allows readers to follow along in order of the progression, or to flip around to sections they identify with most. Lash and Associates has the workbook for sale on their website.

Barbara Stahura uses After Brain Injury: Telling Your Story - A Journaling Workbook in her six week journaling course titled similarly, After Brain Injury - Telling Your Story. This course is tightly focused on exploring elements of life after brain injury and is held at the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern Arizona. Copies of the workbook, supplied by Lash and Associates Publishing/Training Inc, are provided for participants, and the program is free to qualified applicants. Stahura begins her next six week program February 16th, and it runs every Wednesday through March 23rd from 4:15 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
