BPCL Kochi Refinery Recognized at FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards 2022
BPCL Kochi Refinery has been recognized at the FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards 2022.
- (1888PressRelease) November 22, 2022 - Recently Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, BPCL Kochi Refinery won FICCI India’s petrochemicals award. BPCL was accredited with FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Award 2022. In a special nomination by the jury, BPCL was awarded for its achievements for promoting Make in India by contributing towards the introduction of Propylene Derivatives (Oxo Alcohols, etc) for the first time India.
The award was received by Ajith Kumar, executive director (Kochi Refinery) from the Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, minister of health and family welfare and chemicals and fertilizers, government of India at an event held in New Delhi.
Suresh John, chief general manager of Refinery Projects Organization and A Mahendiran, general manager were also present at the event held in New Delhi.
Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Complex
The Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Complex was built at the cost of Rs 6000 Crore. The complex was dedicated to the nation’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14th February 2021.
The complex has an Acrylic Acid Unit, Acrylates Unit and Oxo Alcohol Unit of world scale size and capacity, and will save approximately Rs 4000 Crore annually in foreign exchange due to import substitution.
BPCL is the first oil and gas company in India to venture into the petrochemical segment of Acrylates and Acrylic acid.
Post the integrated refinery expansion of Kochi Refinery, which made it largest PSU oil Refinery in India, the foundation stone for the complex was laid, which is a total “Make in India” initiative aimed at reducing dependence on imports from foreign countries.
FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards
As I said earlier the award was given for the contribution toward the introduction of Propylene Derivatives for the first time in India.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (FICCI) organizes the Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards with an objective to recognize individuals and companies for their outstanding work and immense contribution towards chemical and petrochemical industry.
The award reflects determination and contributions of various individuals and companies coming from this sector. BPCL’s success and achievements were highlighted at the ceremony. The award speaks for the work BPCL has done around sustainability across its pan India facilities, making a positive impact on environment by reducing carbon emissions.
The award was given in the presence of senior officials from the department of chemicals and petrochemicals, government of India ministers and other stakeholders in the sector.
Till now as many as 48 companies have been awarded for their contribution towards the growth of the Indian chemicals and petrochemicals industry.
Some Other Awards Won By BPCL Kochi Refinery
- Earlier BPCL Kochi won the prestigious refinery performance improvement award at the 25th energy technology meet convened by ministry of petroleum and natural gas earlier this year. The award was organized by center for High Technology (CHT) in association with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas.
- BPCL Kochi Refinery received First prize in Refinery Performance Improvement Award” for the year 2019-20
- Commendation Certificate in “Refinery Performance Improvement” for the year 2021-22
Such awards were also awarded to other BPCL refineries like BPCL Bina and BPCL Mumbai.
