Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a leading 'Maharatna' and Fortune Global 500 Company, proudly announces its support for a remarkable healthcare initiative benefiting profoundly deaf children in Maharashtra. In collaboration with the Indorewala Memorial Educational & Medical Institute & Research Centre (IMEMIRC), BPCL is providing cochlear implantation surgeries for 30 underprivileged children in the state.
Cochlear implantation, a life-changing procedure, enhances hearing for individuals with inner-ear damage, unable to benefit from external hearing aids. The program, led by IMEMIRC, aims to offer early intervention and prevent hearing loss among economically disadvantaged children born deaf.
BPCL, committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has taken this initiative under its thrust area of Health & Sanitation. The surgeries are conducted at the hospital in Nashik and other locations across Maharashtra.
A highlight of the program was the presence of Sanjay Manjrekar, an esteemed Indian cricket commentator and former cricketer, as the chief guest. Mr Manjrekar interacted with the beneficiaries, sharing his experiences and providing words of inspiration to the children who have undergone or are undergoing cochlear implantation surgeries.

IMEMIRC, a charitable organisation, operates the 'Indorewala ENT Hospital,' a leading centre for cochlear implant surgeries in North Maharashtra. Empanelled under the Central Government's ADIP Scheme since 2016, IMEMIRC is dedicated to providing a brighter future for underprivileged children.
The project's salient features include offering free or low-cost services to the underprivileged and enhancing the quality of ENT services for the community. Thorough medical examinations, including audiological, radiological, and psychological evaluations, are conducted on the beneficiaries before the surgery. Consultations with cochlear implant surgeons ensure the suitability of candidates, as cochlear implantation involves a surgical, implanted neuroprosthesis/electronic device that restores the sense of sound for individuals with profound hearing loss.
