"We're actually having a hard time hiring people fast enough," said Anna Luthens, HR Coordinator at Amadeus Consulting. "Normally we can find the right people through our normal networks, but now we really have to reach out and it's getting harder to find enough people to fill the positions we have available."
According to Luthens, part of the trouble is that there are not enough people with high-tech and creative skills looking for work right now. Since Amadeus Consulting creates custom software for a wide range of clients, it needs to recruit people who are very skilled in specific technologies, and who also have a broader range of experience with many other technologies.
Luthens also offers these five tips for people who are applying to the company, or any similar position:
• In a client/customer facing company, we value communication skills and your ability to explain challenges and success to a client with a limited technology background. For us, that doesn't mean you'll be doing IT or Customer Support, but communication skills do matter.
• We value people who are able, willing, or interested in learning new skills, or working on new types of projects. Being able and willing to learn in the technology industry is vital as new technologies emerge and standards change.
• Almost everything we do is collaborative. Being able to work independently is important, but being able to contribute in a group environment is vital.
• Please read every job description carefully, and make sure your resume or cover letter answers each of the requirements. Or if you have any questions about the requirements or the position, it is okay to send an email and ask questions too.
• And as always, when applying to a job, it is always important learn a little bit about the company and the culture ahead of time.
