Bosch launches Green Star campaign across the UAE
Leading home appliances manufacturer, Bosch, today launched its 'Green Star' environmental campaign at Jumeira Baccalaureate School (JBS), encouraging students to take steps towards becoming more sustainable citizens.
- (1888PressRelease) March 25, 2013 - The initiative, launched to coincide with World Water Day, aims to promote sustainability by encouraging communities to take simple steps in their everyday lives to save resources and become a 'Green Star'. World Water Day is particularly significant in the UAE where a reported 23 per cent of water consumed is domestic and the country's average daily water usage of 550 litres per day is over double the global average of 250 according to a 2011 report by DEWA.
Bosch's visit to JBS saw the students given tips to save water in their daily tasks, as well as demonstration of Bosch's award winning super-efficient products which rank in the highest energy ratings according to the European energy labelling scheme and are among the most environmentally friendly in the market.
Bosch announced a competition for the schoolchildren who were challenged to develop a poster, take a photograph, write a poem or create the idea for an invention that will help promote more responsible use of water. All participants will be given Bosch goodies and the winners will receive tickets for the forthcoming animated movie, Epic, of which Bosch are official partners. Similar activities will take place in a number of schools throughout the course of the year and teachers are welcome to apply for more information.
The campaign also reaches out to all corners of the community with the launch of its 'I am a Green Star' facebook competition, which is open to residents across the emirates. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate how they're being 'Green Stars' in their everyday lives on the dedicated 'I am a Green Star' app. Anyone can upload a photograph demonstrating how they are being sustainable or making a positive difference to the UAE environment with winners receiving a super-efficient Bosch home appliance.
Bosch's marketing director, Georg Kazantzidis, said: "Bosch is committed to supporting the local community as part of our on-going CSR activity and help it become a better place to live for its residents. Bosch is a leader of green home appliances and has won a number of international awards for its advanced technology and we believe it's our responsibility to share our expertise and experiences to the benefit of the public.
"We've been involved in environmental campaigns such as 'Clean Up the UAE', so to launch our own initiative seemed a natural progression. The Green Star campaign will reach out to all corners of the community to improve lives, while also benefitting the environment. We see our association with schools like JBS as very important, as children are not only the future, but can play a crucial role in educating the whole household on the importance of sustainability.
JBS spokesperson, Clive Pierrepont, said: "In today's interconnected world, students are increasingly asked to recognise and embrace unique opportunities and empathise with others from different religions, creeds, cultures and continents. As soon-to-be 'caretakers of our planet' their responsibility is not only to communicate and understand as active global citizens but also to connect with green initiatives to become curators of the planet for future generations to come."
Anyone can take part in the 'I am a Green Star' competition to win a top of the range Bosch domestic appliance by visiting the Bosch Home Gulf facebook page.
