Book on Film Highlighted at Church Celebration of UN's International Day of Happiness

Ron Hubbard's Way to Happiness will be featured at the Church of Scientology of Tampa's open house in honor of the United Nations International Day of Happiness on Thursday, March 20th. The open house will be from 10am to 8pm. The Church is located in the historic Ybor Square property at 1300 E 8th Ave, in Ybor City.
The film, which had its international premiere in 2009, shows the lives of several families, their friends and children, follows the 21 precepts of the Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to morals. The film, along with public service announcements that highlight each precept, will be screened at the Church. Guests can also avail themselves of tours of the building and light refreshments.
"Seeking happiness is universal and timeless," said Mimi Kintzel, the spokesperson for the Tampa Church of Scientology. "All churches have at their base an idea that one can lead a moral life, but the Way to Happiness gives a person a reality that being moral can result in joy and happiness, not cold solemnity."
The precepts include "Be worthy of trust," "Do not harm a person of goodwill" and "Respect the religious beliefs of others."
It is in this last precept that Mr. Hubbard wrote "Men without faith are a pretty sorry lot. They can even be given something to have faith in. But when they have religious beliefs, respect them."
To illustrate this point, the film shows a young woman who practices Hindu, who must suffer bullying by a teacher at school but then is warmly accepted by her boyfriend's Christian family.
"We are excited to welcome the community in for this special day," added Ms. Kintzel. "Ybor Square - where the Church of Scientology of Tampa is now located -was the first brick cigar factory in the United States and was the cigar factory that was established by the man who gave Ybor City its name - Vicente Martinez Ybor. A lot of historical preservation has gone in to the property, which really gives the character of old Tampa."
The Open House is one of many events around the world which are celebrating the United Nation's International Day of Happiness. In advance of the day, celebrants in more than 144 countries have taken a pledge to "…try to create more happiness in the world around me."
The United Nations adopted a resolution for the International Day of Happiness to encourage nations to recognize that 'progress' is not just about growing the economies of the world at all costs, but it is also about increasing human happiness and well being.
