  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) September 23, 2011 - On October 3-5, 2011, Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation will host donor drives alongside The Senator Foundation University Project at Princeton University in honor of Alan H. Cohen. The drive will run from 12 PM until 3 PM each day and will benefit patients suffering from various blood cancers and diseases who are in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Cohen was diagnosed with Leukemia in October of 2009. His illness ignited a movement of thousands of volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly to find a life-saving match for him. Sadly, he passed away in December 2009. To honor his memory, The Senator Foundation University Project continues to test donors to find matches for other patients in need. They decided to focus on college campuses because young donors will be in the registry for many years to come, thus increasing the opportunities they will have to save lives.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match. Gift of Life's vision is simple: A match. Anytime. Anywhere. For anyone. Please join us in a global movement to save lives.

Gift of Life originated in 1991 when its founder, Jay Feinberg, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. Jay's only hope of survival was a bone marrow transplant, and four years after his diagnosis, his match was found when the 60,000th person was tested at the very last recruitment drive held on his behalf. Today, Jay remains committed to saving the lives of others by increasing the number of bone marrow donors in the worldwide registry. Gift of Life is among the top international registries, with more than 189,000 potential volunteer donors, and is responsible for facilitating more than 2,300 bone marrow transplants.
