Bone & Bell Announces New Four-song EP "Organ Fantasies" For Release At Schuba's May 25th, 2012
A Hauntingly Beautiful Song That Is Accompanied By A Few Instruments That Are Oddly Combined And Yet Produce A Most Beautiful Sound Together.
- Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) April 25, 2012 - Layered vocal melodies intertwine with the drone of vintage organs in Bone & Bell's second EP, Organ Fantasies, set to release on 7 inch vinyl and digital download May 25th. Organ Fantasies marks Bone & Bell's first release since 2010's critically acclaimed Loom.
While Loom was an exploration of the baritone ukulele, Organ Fantasies is an exploration of the organ. Recorded at home by Texas-born singer songwriter Heather Smith, Organ Fantasies weaves organs (from the 60s and 70s) with intricate vocal lines using modern sequencing techniques. The thoughtfully honed songs explore complicated themes such as faith, oppression, addiction and co-dependence. In word and in sound, Organ Fantasies is a rich mixture of harmony and harshness.
Organ Fantasies "walks a tight rope somewhere between lush spaciousness and cacophonous Bollywood," Smith said. "I tried to utilize the inherent flaws of the organs rather than working against them. Sort of exploring the perfection of imperfection," Smith added.
The May 25th release party at Schuba's will also feature The Columbines, along with Adam Faucett and The Tall Grass. Doors open at 9pm and the cover is $10.

Critical Response to Bone & Bell:
"Chicago songwriter Heather Smith has a special talent for melancholy, precise folk songs that are instantly hummable and carefully crafted. Her music is regal and charming, possessing a literary feel."
- Matt Garman, Chirp Radio
"These are the beautiful doldrums, or the spooky leftovers from something mysteriously charged that make you sit still and soak it all in."
- Sean Moeller, Daytrotter
"The five song EP (Loom-2010) is simply delightful, with singer Heather Smith's gorgeous voice flying and dancing over the finger-picked patterns of her ukulele, while her lyrics lead the listener into a world that is both exotically foreign and strangely familiar. "
- Jack Thornton, They Are The Imitators
