  • Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY (1888PressRelease) November 08, 2012 - The law firm of Bond & Taylor announced today that it was offering free GranuFloŽ case evaluations for injured dialysis patients. Following a massive U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall of this acid concentrate, thousands of patients and their families have come forward to divulge serious and life altering dialysis injuries. The law firm of Bond & Taylor is encouraging injured dialysis patients to call today for a free consultation to find out what kind of compensation is available.

On March 29, 2012, the FDA issued a Class 1 recall of two acid concentrates used during dialysis, named GranuFloŽ and NaturaLyteŽ. These products were manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care, who also ran the largest network of dialysis care centers across America. In 2010, Fresenius' researchers observed 947 patient heart attacks during dialysis treatment, as noted in the FDA recall. Patients with elevated bicarbonate levels were experiencing overdoses of bicarbonates because of the elevated bicarbonate levels in both GranuFloŽ and NaturaLyteŽ.

Many doctors were unaware of the elevated bicarbonate levels in GranuFloŽ and NaturaLyteŽ. During dialysis treatment, these acid concentrates were administered to reduce acid build up in the blood as toxins such as excess wastes, salts, and toxins were removed from patients' blood. When Fresenius became aware that patients were having serious side effects from these solutions, such as heart attacks, strokes, and death, the company alerted its own network of doctors to the dangers. However, Fresenius' warnings did not reach outside the network until the FDA recall.

In the nearly 125,000 Americans cared for with Fresenius' products, thousands of patients potentially did not receive these lifesaving health warnings. The FDA sought to remedy this with a recall and new drug warnings on packaging. However, thousands of patients have been seriously injured and many are filing suit, claiming their dialysis injuries are the result of a lack of information from Fresenius.

"We are aware that many people are hurting as a result of their dialysis treatment. And we want to hear their stories and get them the compensation they deserve," said partner Andrew L. Wright.
