Bolivia Volunteers distribute winter clothing
In a recent survey, researchers found more than 6,500 people sleeping rough on the streets of Cochabamba.
- (1888PressRelease) June 13, 2011 - As an exceptionally cold weather spell grips Cochabamba, with night-time temperatures falling to below zero, BOLIVIA VOLUNTEERS is appealing to the local community for gifts of warm clothing and blankets.
Administrator Willson Marshal says,
It certainly seems that our Winter has arrived early this year - and is developing into the coldest we have seen for many years. Our volunteers have been hard at work for the past week collecting donations of clothes, and distributing them to the city´s street children - living rough in door-ways, in local parks, and under the many bridges that link North to South of the city.´
And volunteer Martin Sykes from England, on a two month Social Care placement with Bolivia Volunteers adds,
We´re handing out all sorts of things - sweaters, trousers, hats, scarves, gloves - anything that people can donate to the street kids. We´ve had plenty of blankets and some sleeping bags handed to us as well, which are the best things the boys and girls living rough can use at the moment.´
