Boca Grove Host SFPGA Junior Championship
On Wednesday, June 20th and Thursday, June 21st, Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club welcomed some of the most skilled young athletes in South Florida to compete in the 2012 South Florida Junior PGA Championship. The Overall winners of the boys' and girls' division qualify to join approximately 150 of the nation's top junior golfers in The PGA of America's Junior PGA Championship July 31-Aug. 3, 2012.
- West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL (1888PressRelease) June 23, 2012 - On Wednesday, June 20th and Thursday, June 21st, Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club, a premier golf club in Boca Raton, Florida, hosted the 33rd SFPGA Junior Championship. The Club welcomed 72 talented young athletes as they contended for a shot in The PGA of America's Junior PGA Championship.
After two days of competition, the Overall winners of the boys' and girls' division were crowned. Anthony Gabriele of Wellington, Florida and Valentina Haupt of Weston, Florida will represent South Florida next month in the 37th annual Junior PGA Championship.
Gabriele (16) a home-schooled junior, won the boys division by a stroke on rounds of 69-77-146. Haupt (15) won girls honors by three shots with 73-77-150. Haupt arrived from Chile about a month ago and will be a sophomore at Cypress Bay High School.
"We at Boca Grove were thrilled to host so many skilled, young athletes. We are proud to have been a part of the Junior PGA tournament series. We wish the winners the best of luck at the Junior PGA Championship next month," said Emerson "Chuck" Lehner, Boca Grove General Manager.
Acknowledged as one of the major championships in junior golf, the Junior PGA Championship is scheduled for July 31-August 3 at Sycamore Hills in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The field is comprised of one boy and one girl from each of the PGA of America's 41 geographical sections as well as a number of special invitees.
