Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries Partners with Non-Profit Group LifeWell
Fast Casual Burger Chain Supports Fresh Drinking Water Initiative in Africa.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) October 27, 2010 - Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries, known for its fresh, made to order hand pattied burgers and fresh cut fries, has partnered with LifeWell, Inc., a Maryland based non-profit group. LifeWell's mission is to bring clean, fresh drinking water to those without. Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries has become a corporate sponsor for the group, and will be providing product and financial support for the group's activities. To further support the endeavor, the chain will also feature donation boxes in their restaurants.
LifeWell was founded by Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries Director of Operations Joe Beckhardt. Beckhardt, an ordained minister, had travelled to Africa on a missionary trip and was shocked at the lack of clean water available to villagers. The organization is currently working to install fresh water wells in the remote villages of Osun, Nigeria. In 2009, the group drilled a fresh water well in the village of Idiamu, Nigeria. Each well costs approximately $6,000 USD to install.
"We are thrilled to support such an admirable cause," said Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries CEO and founder Dave DiFerdinando. "Here at home, we are honored to serve our delicious burgers and fresh cut fries to American families, but we recognized that Nigerian families were without a very basic necessity for survival. Clean water is something every man, woman, and child should have access to, and we are humbled that Boardwalk can help make this a reality for the villages that LifeWell supports."ere
The Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries concept currently has 7 locations open in Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Pennsylvania and California and 152 units in development in Virginia, Georgia, California, Michigan, and New Jersey.
Said LifeWell founder and Boardwalk employee Joe Beckhardt, "I am truly thankful that my employer has decided to support LifeWell. The cause resonates with Boardwalk's mission of excellent service to customers and franchisees. These Nigerian villagers will likely never have the chance to enter a Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries restaurant, but the company still wanted to extend their commitment to customer service all the way to Africa."
