BNP Partners Says It is Not Planning IPO
BNP Partners says it will not seek a public listing on the stock market despite Beijing's recent lifting of the ban on new IPOs.
- (1888PressRelease) November 23, 2015 - Shanghai, China headquartered broker-dealer, BNP Partners reports it has no plans to avail itself of the recently-announced lifting of the blanket ban on new IPOs by seeking a listing on the stock exchange.
Prior to this summer's stock market meltdown, securities firms were as prolific at raising funds via initial public offerings as the technology and social media companies that soaked up much of the liquidity in the months leading up to the crash. By the time the CSRC (China Securities Regulatory Commission) staged the first of its interventions to stem the panicked selling, China's brokerages had raised $15.9 billion from IPOs and share sales.
"We have no interest in launching an IPO for the sake of doing so like so many others have before," explained Gerald E. Powers, Chief Investment Officer at BNP Partners. "We may consider it at some point in the future but for now, we remain focused on building our business by taking care of our clients rather than by hawking ourselves on the stock market."
The company welcomed news of the CSRC's repeal of the ban on new IPOs but warned that investors hoping for a return to the pre-bust fever that characterized mainland indexes could be disappointed.
"The boom depended very much on margin trading or borrowed money for the meteoric gains seen on the Shenzhen and Shanghai exchanges in the year or so prior to the summer selloff. That has been significantly curbed by the regulator so investors shouldn't be betting on a return to the heady days any time soon," concluded Powers.
