The National Association for Child Development and Blue Whale Web Solutions, Inc. created the Speech Therapy for Apraxia iPad app to serve as a speech practice tool for parents and a therapy tool for speech pathologists of individuals with apraxia.
- West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2012 - The National Association for Child Development and Blue Whale Web Solutions, Inc. announced today the release of a breakthrough Speech Therapy iPad Application aimed at assisting children and adults with speech practice exercises. The application, called "Speech Therapy for Apraxia-- NACD Home Speech Therapist," is now available on the App Store for a $4.99 download.
The Speech Therapy for Apraxia app is a fun, user-friendly app to practice basic speech sound (phoneme) production and motor planning for speech. It is a perfect tool for young children with articulation problems and for children with apraxia/dyspraxia. Adults wth apraxia can use the iPad application as well. This app is primarily for improving motor planning for speech and can be used by parents for practice at home or by a speech pathologist as part of a formal speech therapy program.
"It was important to us to develop an app that parents can use at home for speech practice with their children but that is also an effective tool for therapists," said Lori Riggs, Speech-Language Pathologist at NACD. Because the emphasis is on the child's production, the parent or therapist should be an active participant in order to provide the user with feedback, reinforcement, and additional modeling. This app is not intended for independent use by the child/student.
Speech therapists can benefit from use of this app in formal therapy sessions as part of a comprehensive approach to articulation and motor planning. The iPad use in therapy sessions has proven to be quite beneficial, as clients respond positively to the iPad apps, especially children.
