BJAC Principal Addresses Symposium At The North Carolina History Education Center
Architect Jennifer Amster Spoke At Museum Opening On Oct. 22.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 26, 2010 - Lou Jurkowski, FAIA and CEO at BJAC, pa (http://www.bjac.com), an architectural firm offering professional services for specialized, complex institutional projects, has announced that Jennifer Amster, principal at BJAC, spoke at the History of North Carolina History Center symposium on creating and building a new interactive immersive museum in the United States. Amster was scheduled to speak on Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Cullman Performance Hall located in the North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace in the historic downtown of New Bern. Her lecture was part of a two-day event featuring designers and architects who collaborated on the History Center. The symposium is one of the many events that took place for the grand opening of the Center from Oct. 21-24.
Amster discussed BJAC's development and design of a sustainable History Center. As a green-designed project, the History Center is a candidate for the LEED Silver, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Its design features wetlands to filter storm water run-off, an underground cistern to capture rain water for irrigation and replenishment of wetlands, and many regional and recycled building materials.
BJAC served as the project architect for the History Center. It was responsible for managing and coordinating the design for the construction of the Center. The building's design is modeled after the grid pattern of the New Bern town plan created in 1710, including the wharves and warehouses that once filled the downtown harbor, and the regional 19th and early 20th century commercial architecture.
QUOTES:
"After over ten years of design, site preparation and construction, our team is extremely excited to see the History Center open to the public," said Jurkowski. "We are proud to showcase and discuss our work for the Center and its environmentally sustainable design at the upcoming symposium."
