  • (1888PressRelease) September 01, 2012 - The Birmingham Museum of Art in Alabama is bringing mobile technology to its newest exhibit: "Norman Rockwell's America," launching in September. The Museum partnered with OnCell, leading mobile tour provider to make its audio content available through a cell phone audio tour. Visitors can take the cell phone tour with a cell phone or smartphone to learn about the exhibit, which includes 52 original paintings by Rockwell, drawings, and all 323 Saturday Evening Post covers Rockwell created between 1916 and 1963.

"What do an astronaut, a congresswoman, a filmmaker, and a recent college graduate have in common? They are among the special guest speakers featured on the Museum's original audio tour for Norman Rockwell's America," said Kristi McMillan, Assistant Curator of Education for Visitor Engagement. "A variety of voices engage Rockwell's iconic images from unique points of view, helping visitors to consider not only the works' historical contexts but also how they relate to today's world. The OnCell audio tour is free and can be accessed from any cellular phone, smartphone, or internet-enabled device."

To take the OnCell tour, visitors can dial the tour number found on tour signs and press the number associated with a particular Rockwell painting, drawing or illustration. The tour can be dialed again at any time or placed on hold while browsing the art exhibit. OnCell's mobile technology allows the museum to engage more closely with visitors and helps to provide a complete multimedia experience.

The Norman Rockwell's America exhibit begins September 16 and ends January 6, 2013. For more information, visit For more information, visit www.artsbma.org/exhibitions/norman-rockwells-america
