Arrasmith, Professor at Florida Institute of Technology, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes William W. Arrasmith's commitment to excellence in Higher Education.
Arrasmith, who holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Teach, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and a PhD in Physics from Air Force Institute of Technology, began working in his field over twenty years ago while serving as a 2nd lieutenant for the US Air Force as an engineer, scientist, assistant professor and acquisition professional.
Having had the opportunity to develop a state-of-the-art detection satellite, build and demonstrate a high-power earth-to-space laser system, initiate fundamental research and development activities, teach midshipmen control systems, adaptive optics and systems engineering at the US Naval Academy, Arrasmith has also headed a science and technology division in the advanced directorate of the Air Force Technical Applications Center.
In 2003, after retiring from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel,
Arrasmith joined Florida Tech as an associate professor before being promoted to a full professor in 2008. Currently, he does research in advanced optical imaging methods, unconventional sensing methods, modeling and simulation and applied systems engineering. He teaches graduate level systems engineering and engineering management, supervises doctorate level research and also develop new course curriculum.
Arrasmith has been inspired throughout his career by both his family and friends and his faith. He credits his program management and acquisition experience that he earned in the Air Force to his successes, along with his education, mentorship and guidance of senior leaders, experts and administrators that have come into his life.
"Having the opportunity to share what I know, to educate our future generations and instill in them a love and respect for life and learning is what has guided me in my career path," Arrasmith said.
Also the founder and president of a consulting company called Greywolf Technical Services, Inc. since 2003, Arrasmith recently formed XSight Technologies, LLC, just this year with two partners. Serving as chief technical officer, this organization offers high-resolution imaging solutions to the military, industrial and commercial segments.
A member of the American Society of Engineers Education, Arrasmith hopes to become a member of and participate with national and international level engineering and science organizations and institutions like the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Science, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Optical Society of America. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi. He has published over twenty publications in refereed journals, holds three patents in his field and earned a Florida Tech Walter E. Nunn College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award. When William isn't busy working, he enjoys playing the guitar and soccer.
