The selection recognizes Susan Kelly Brown's commitment to excellence in Education.
Brown, an attendee of the University of North Carolina and Central Carolina Community College, began her career in 1984 working as a cash audit verifier, managing her own day care for ten years, and working as a technology specialist for another ten years before working for the elementary school.
As the principal's secretary, Brown has a number of different responsibilities. She acts as the bookkeeper certified in using SchoolFunds, she manages purchase orders through the eprocurement system, administers medications to students three days a week when the nurse is off campus, and does all routine administrative duties. She is also the yearbook advisor, helps with the handbook, manages inventory, and assists teachers, parents, students, and administrative staff. Brown also attends workshops, classes and conferences to add to her profession and stay relative in her field.
Brown has recently written and published a poetry book, titled Poetry Trails, in 2008, and hopes to put out a second one soon.
