  • (1888PressRelease) March 10, 2011 - Shamus A. Allidina, Part-Time Consultant, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Shamus A. Allidina's commitment to excellence in the field of Engineering.

Allidina, who holds both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Engineering from Carleton, began working in Uganda in 1969 as a project coordinator with Industrial Promotional Services in technoplastics, the second largest plastic plant in East Africa and eventually became promoted to technical manager.

After working for several years, Allidina left Uganda and moved to Canada in 1972 because of the deteriorating political situation to pursue his master's degree and part-time teaching assistantship. He soon began working as a project engineer for the CSA International, Certification and Testing Division of CSA Group. "I found the experience of contributing to performance and safety very gratifying and inspiring," he said in regards to his role with the organization. Soon after he was placed on American Society for Testing and Materials committees and later became a voting member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standards Technical Committees. He was promoted to senior engineer responsible for certification programs, standards work, training, and resolution issues.

Allidina's vast experience helped him spearhead a number of projects for developing new CSA standards and certification programs in plastics piping, conduits and plumbing products, and developed a much needed chainsaws certification program for Canada in view of the injuries in the forestry industry.

Having retired in 2005 after thirty-one years with the CSA, Allidina began consulting after being approached by manufacturers in an effort to assist in standards and certification matters. "I have been quite selective in the projects I have undertaken," he explained, "and I have done well."

A member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, ASTM International and CSA Technical Committees, Allidina was awarded with the Who's Who in Plastics and Polymers' first edition through the Society of Plastics Engineers and Technomic Publishing company for signifying active and professional participation in the dynamic field of plastics and polymers. He was also named to Outstanding People of the Twenty-First Century in the International Biographical Center's first edition. In his free time, Shamus enjoys playing tennis, badminton and volleyball.
