- Iowa City, IA (1888PressRelease) April 02, 2011 - Rachel Henning, Elementary School Teacher for Black Hawk Elementary School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Rachel Henning's commitment to excellence in the field of Education.
Henning, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Mount Senario College, has been a licensed teacher since 2002. After teaching and coaching JV girl's basketball in North Carolina for five years, she returned to the state of Iowa to continue in her field.
Currently teaching preschool for Burlington Community School District, Henning's program is part of a statewide preschool program, free to all four-year-olds, benefiting the parents who can't afford to send their children to a private preschool. By using the Creative Curriculum, she teaches two sessions per day with twenty students each. Having taken Every Child Reads for three- to five-year-olds, she has also taken a mathematics creative curriculum to help her meet the requirements and to understand the program fully.
As the first teacher for the preschool program in her school district, Henning aspires to continue learning and reinventing the wheel.
"I have seen the amazing growth in the number of children in the program," she said. "My first year we had twenty-seven children. Going into its fourth year we have almost one hundred twenty!"
Planning to pursue her master's degree in education, Henning is a member of the National Educational Association and the Burlington Reading Council. She's also a strong supporter of the Greyhound Program. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, spending time outdoors and with her family.
