- Albuquerque, NM (1888PressRelease) September 01, 2011 - Nicolette Carrell Dennis, Principal at Career Enrichment Center and Early College Academy, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Nicolette Carrell Dennis's commitment to excellence in Education.
Dennis, who holds a BA and MA in English, both from the University of Idaho, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Education Administration from the University of New Mexico, is a certified national mentor, teacher and principal with over thirty years experience as an educator. After teaching English for several years before becoming a school administrator in 1991 and later an assistant principal just three years later in 1994, Dennis has been in her current role for one high school and two alternative schools.
Currently overseeing two schools, the Career Enrichment Center (CEC), which was established in 1975 and the Early College Academy (ECA), established in 2005, the CEC offers public, charter and home school students access to elective classes such as EMT, practical nursing, cosmetology, veterinary science, forensics and nursing assistant, which are not usually available at other high schools. The ECA, the sister school to CEC, provides students with their core academic classes in the morning, thus allowing them to take elective classes in the afternoon and evening CEC, the University of New Mexico, or Central Community College.
"Each year, we have several students that graduate from high school with an associate's degree, and our school has met AYP every year," Dennis said. "We offer classes in a wide variety of areas, such as nursing, emergency medical technician, veterinarian technician, architecture construction, cosmetology, pre-med, film, film making, business, and several others."
As an educator, Dennis said that it is important to understand that relationships and strong communication skills help her to be successful in meeting the academic, emotional and social needs of students. She noted that she rarely thinks "inside the box" and that she is not afraid of being wrong or taking a stand based on her core values.
Dennis hopes to continue her education and work toward her doctorate degree in either education or rhetoric. She also would like to run for state legislature, write a few fiction and educational books, and still be able to travel and spend quality time with her family.
Presently, Dennis is the president of the Albuquerque Public Schools Principals Association, which serves approximately two hundred sixty principals. She is past president of the New Mexico Elementary School Principals Association and is currently involved in Emerge New Mexico, which trains democratic women to run for office. She is also an active member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of Elementary School Principals and Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society. Dennis was named School Counselor Advocate of the Year in 2006-07, National Distinguished Principal in 2004, Principal of the Year through KOB in 1999 and New Mexico School Principal of the Year. When Nicolette isn't busy working, she enjoys travelling, reading and skiing.
