- Asheville, NC (1888PressRelease) July 23, 2010 - Mitch Jenkins, Martial Arts Instructor and Third Degree Black Belt for Appalachian Hapkido Institute, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Mitch Jenkins's commitment to excellence in Martial Arts.
Jenkins, who holds an associates degree in general occupational technology from Tri-County Community College, began training in 1997 after enrolling in Hapkido lessons under Master H.L. Harris of the Korea Hapkido Association. He's been practicing martial arts for over twelve years.
While studying martial arts and taking classes taught by Harris, Jenkins soon became his assistant by leading the group exercises before each class. After becoming a certified, first degree black belt through the Hapkido Institute, he began instructing his own classes, teaching his students effective self-defense techniques in a safe and responsible environment. Loving what he does everyday and knowing how important self-defense is, he said, "My students' lives and loved ones lives may depend on these techniques someday." He also said that it is very important that his instruction includes great explanation so that his students understand the material, style, and manner.
Growing up a fan of Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and Steven Segal, Jenkins yearned to learn the arts. He hopes to someday make the Appalachian Institute a world-class combat arts school and work with military, SWAT, and law enforcement agencies, as well as civilians. He is actively preparing for his third degree black belt certification and currently holds black belts in Knife/Counter-Knife Combatives, SDMS Stick Combatives, and American Combat Kempo. He's a member of many organizations, including the Andrews Lodge 529 Free Masons, National Rifle Association, Knights Templar, York Rite, American Budo Society, World Kido Federation, Yong Mu Kwan Hapkido Federation, Smoky Mountain Jeet Kune Do Association, Scientific Fighting Congress Close Quarter Combat Group, and acts as the vice-president of the Ronin Worldwide Executive Protection, LLC. Mitch is also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoys hunting, fishing, and traveling his free time.
