- Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) May 15, 2012 - Martha Ware Brown, Retired Teacher for Silsbee High School and current Adjunct Professor at Lamar Institute of Technology, has been selected as a Featured Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Martha Ware Brown's commitment to excellence in Mathematics Education and Higher Education.
Brown, who earned her Master's Degree in Mathematics from Tuskegee University in 1983 and her Doctor of Education in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in 2012, began teaching in 1980 in Lineville, Alabama after earning her bachelor's degree.
Having taught in Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, Brown has taught sixth grade through college, including three years at Lamar Institute of Technology. Now a retired high school mathematics teacher, she now exclusively teaches college level math. In addition, she prepares students for state tests, communicates with parents, attends meetings and professional development sessions, supervises students on various duty assignments, and works hard to integrate technology into the classroom and stay current with best practices in education.
Having thirty years experience as a secondary mathematics teacher, Brown's thirst to be a lifelong learner has earned her much respect in the field. She also has five years past experience teaching science and introductory computer courses, has also served as a district curriculum writer, district in-service presenter, and district lead teacher.
"I was destined to become a teacher," Brown said about her career in teaching. "I was encouraged to pursue my dreams as an educator by my parents, Ada and Theodore Ware. They were always in support of me accomplishing my goals."
With plans to continue teaching, tutoring, and mentoring, Brown hopes to do consult with and provide training to teachers on integrating technology into their mathematics curriculum. She'd also like to further her research in mathematics and technology to add to the current knowledge base on the topic, and to also write articles in the field and have them published in peer-reviewed journals.
Brown is a member of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She's been named Mathematics Lead Teacher from 2002-04, was nominated as HEB Teacher of the Year in 2007, was the recipient of a State Math and Science Collaborative from 2007-08, and was named Mentor Teacher in 2009.
