Biltmore Who's Who Selects Joyce G. Parker as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Joyce G. Parker's commitment to excellence in volunteerism.
- Monroe, LA (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2010 - Joyce G. Parker, Volunteer Supervisor and Senior Mentor for WikiAnswers, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Parker, who stumbled over her newly found position by accident in March of 2008, began by doing some research on the company's site in an effort to gather some information for a relative. After posting a question and getting a response in just a few minutes, she became curious about the organization, and quickly joined as a contributor. Within two weeks, she was approached on becoming a volunteer supervisor for the site, and has been volunteering with them ever since.
With no minimum time requirements, Parker went from a supervisor to a senior mentor, after graduating from their mentor program. Working in all areas, but as a supervisor in the Children and Divorce category, she answers questions and makes sure that all questions are appropriate to each category. "Many people who post questions aren't sure which category their question should be posted. As a result, they end up in the wrong categories, delaying their questions from being answered," she explained. She also spends time editing spelling, grammar, punctuation of questions, and answers on the site. As a supervisor, she also helps control vandalism on the site with warnings and eventually blocking their ability to use the site altogether. Vandals, she said, are those that delete good, accurate answers and replace them with nonsense answers. She also trains new supervisors and helps new mentors "learn the ropes" of being a mentor to new supervisors.
Parker is experienced in various fields, including real estate, banking, insurance, and medical office management. Her extensive experience in working with people has proved invaluable to her volunteer position. "We have contributors from all over the world," she said. "So having good people skills is a must. Also, having experience in the various fields as I do has enabled me to answer questions in a number of categories. I never realized just how many different areas of need there are in which people need help and answers until I started volunteering."
During her first year with WikiAnswers, Parker was the recipient of two WAmmy Awards for Answer of the Year and Best Advice Answer. That following year, she won two WAmmy Awards in the same two categories, being the first person to ever win those same two awards twice. She was also awarded the Going the Extra Mile Award for her research and phone calls in an effort to answer a question. Passionate about her charity affiliations, Parker is a guardian member of the ASPCA. She hopes to eventually spend more of her free time on WikiAnswers and helping others, as well as helping abused animals in the future, which she says, is the most rewarding and satisfying thing she could ever imagine. In her free time, Joyce enjoys photography, cake decorating, and animal rights.
