Biltmore Who's Who Selects Jane J. Stallings as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Jane J. Stalling's commitment to excellence in nuclear medicine.
- Jacksonville, NC (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2010 - Jane J. Stallings, Nuclear Medicine Technologist for CarolinaEast Heart Center, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Stallings, who earned an AS from Lees-McRae College in 1972, followed by a BA in Biology from East Carolina University in 1974, has been working in her field for her entire career, spanning over twenty-five years.
Starting out as a laboratory technician in an OB-GYN office before going back to school for nuclear medicine, Stallings comes from a long line of caregivers and healthcare professionals in her family. Her passion to do more, though, pushed her in the direction of nuclear medicine. Obtaining her first position in 1981, she worked at a hospital in Raleigh, which went permanent the following year. Years later, she found a position in an office with a group of cardiologists, working in nuclear cardiology. She's stayed in nuclear cardiology in private offices ever since.
As a technologist, Stallings starts IVs on her patients, gives injections of a radioactive isotope, and scans them using a gamma camera. The patient is scanned after the rest injection and then walks on a treadmill and is given a second injection of the isotope. If unable to walk, they are given an injection of a chemical to simulate exercise followed by a second injection of the isotope. Later, stress images are obtained. She then compares rest and stress images, and depending on the outcome, the patient may need a heart catheterization. "The experience that I have gained has been an asset to performing my job well," she explained. "I try to use this knowledge, along with showing compassion to my patients, which has come back to reward me." In addition, Stallings also performs quality control on all of her equipment and keeps records for state inspections within her department.
Stallings is a registered nuclear medicine technologist through Duke/VA Hospitals. She hopes to someday work for a group of cardiologists in eastern North Carolina, covering for their technologists when they are out of the office or on vacation. She also hopes to work less hours so that she can spend more time with her husband and be able to volunteer in the community once she starts working part-time. In her spare time, Jane enjoys gardening and traveling.
