- Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) August 05, 2011 - James A. Stanford, Instructor and Chef for Cubic Corp., has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes James A. Stanford's commitment to excellence in Government Food Service.
Stanford, who is currently pursuing his Bachelor's of Business Administration from Virginia State University, and currently holds an Associate's Degree from Texas Central College, joined the US Marines in 1983 as a food service specialist, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 2006.
Currently teaching and providing practical applications in the areas of small quantity baking and cooking to entry level Marines, Navy men and soldiers, Stanford also conducts text reviews and administers test material at the completion of training and mentors students to become effective and efficient in their roles. During his time as a food service specialist in the field, he was responsible for every aspect of food preparation, administration, procurement, storage, distribution, as well as a host of other duties.
"I am inspired to share my experience that I've learned," Stanford said. "During my military career I have always enjoyed the teaching aspect even when I was a drill instructor at Paris Island in South Carolina training, mentoring and teaching recruits how to become a Marine."
Being a brother to five other boys growing up and learning discipline early on, like how to cook, clean and how to pick up after themselves, Stanford knew that the military experience he'd earn over the next twenty-three years would certainly be a good fit for him. He credits his mother for contributing as a great role model for him and his siblings early on, which carried on into his adult life.
Stanford is a member of Masons, the American Legion, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association. He serves as a keynote speaker within his field and has earned numerous awards throughout his military career, including an Achievement Medal and Commendation Award, both from the US Navy, as well as a Meritorious Service Ribbon. When James isn't busy teaching, he volunteers his free time with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He also enjoys bike riding, playing basketball and watching sports.
